Buckle up for the rollercoaster that’s been this week! But first, lets talk celebrations. It’s my birthday month baby! Sorry if you’re sick of hearing this by now, just three more week. And of course the celebrations will not just be on one day, but 29 days. This is a leap year right? Better yet, this week was kicked off by two family birthdays! To top it all off, there were several team socials after the 9 to 5 grind. From dinners with colleagues to bowling with my team. Which I’m very happy to say I did not lose in! I wasn’t first of second, but I wasn’t last either. Nothing like a little friendly competition and banter to improve our team bond right? πŸŽ³πŸ”

As if that wasn’t thrilling enough, we even tried out a new restaurant for one of our after-work dinners. Talk about trying new things with your teammates. At least in that we can all either be equally disappointed or impressed, and no one would be to blame for recommending the place right? I’d call it spontaneity if I didn’t call ahead to book the place but hey, baby steps. πŸ•πŸ»

Let’s talk Wednesday night. One of my favourite nights this week. Birthday dinner round 2. I’m ashamed to say I missed birthday dinner round 1 but that won’t happen again except for a good reason like maybe being out of the country on some epic adventure. A symphony of clinking glass, fresh homemade pasta, original tiramisu and the piΓ¨ce de rΓ©sistance – a family favourite pistachio cake whose recipe I have no idea but I’ve been having this cake every February for the last 8 years! Hilarious conversations with my nearest and dearests. Is there a better way to spoil a girl. And on our way home, a quick little late night drive on the empty roads. I may or may not have indulged in these magical moments more than once this week πŸπŸ’¬πŸ·

Back to the daily grind of commuting, with the rhythm of morning routines and evening farewells becoming the soundtrack of my week. Thank heavens I have been blessed with flexibility, the choice to either cozy up at home or hit the office. Which is only a 15 minutes commute, on the rare occasion of no traffic. Too bad Nairobi doesn’t often treat us to empty roads. Now, if you’ve been following my adventures closely, you probably already know where my heart truly lies – yes, you guessed it, the sweet sanctuary of home sweet home! πŸ‘πŸš—πŸŽ’

However, being the team player that I am, I gladly dusted off my commuter shoes and made my way to the office. Because hey, sometimes sacrifices must be made in the name of camaraderie and team spirit, right? But let’s keep it real – if teleportation were an option, you’d find me beaming straight to my WFH wonderland in a heartbeat! A little secret, I like the office only when it’s empty-ish.

Meetings on in-person meetings were the theme of my life this week. I didn’t know I had it in me to attend back to backs like that with only the break of sneaking to the kitchen to get a refill of ice cold water. Those meeting rooms can be warm! Or is it the Nairobi February weather? β˜€οΈπŸ₯΅ 🧊

Despite the whirlwind of welcomed delightful distractions, I still managed to check in my code in time and start looking at another related task, which I intend to check in before our sprint ends in the middle of the week. More C++ excitement and magic this week! Very excited for that!βœ¨πŸ’»

I didn’t do much cooking this week, so here are the restaurants I spent a few hours at πŸ™‚
